105 years ago today, on July 15, 1921, the Baltimore (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was officially chartered—becoming the Fraternity’s 23rd chapter and eighth alumni chapter.
The chapter’s origins trace back to 1920, when a visionary group of Kappamen recognized the need for a permanent alumni presence in Baltimore. At the center of that effort was Brother George Lehrman Newman, whose leadership, initiative, and commitment earned him recognition as the principal architect of the chapter’s founding.
The resolution establishing the Baltimore Alumni Chapter was adopted during the 10th Grand Chapter Meeting in Philadelphia, held from December 30, 1920, through January 1, 1921. Archival records confirm that the chapter’s official charter was granted on July 15, 1921.
Despite operating in an era defined by racial exclusion and structural barriers, these early brothers built an enduring institution grounded in achievement, service, leadership, and brotherhood.
