The Bowie–Mitchellville (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. proudly congratulates Brother Carl Brown on a milestone achievement—10 years as the creator and host of The Small Business Report, a nationally recognized radio program airing on SiriusXM Channel 141.

A visionary leader, communicator, and advocate for entrepreneurs, Brother Brown has spent the past decade using his platform to inform, empower, and elevate small business owners across the nation. His work on-air, combined with more than 40 years of professional experience, has positioned him as a trusted voice in entrepreneurship, economic development, and business leadership.

A Decade of Insight and Impact

Reflecting on the evolution of the small business landscape, Brother Brown noted that entrepreneurship has transformed significantly over the past 10 years—shifting from traditional models to a technology-driven, innovation-centered ecosystem. Today’s entrepreneurs, particularly minority-owned businesses, are no longer confined to local markets but are competing nationally and globally through digital platforms, e-commerce, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

While these advancements have created new opportunities, Brother Brown emphasized that they have also highlighted persistent disparities in access to capital, technical resources, and strategic networks. Despite these challenges, he has witnessed a notable shift in mindset among minority entrepreneurs.

“Business owners are now more intentional about building scalable enterprises focused on legacy, wealth creation, and sustainability,” Brother Brown explained. “They are moving beyond self-employment toward long-term impact.” He also highlighted the resilience of minority entrepreneurs, noting their ability to innovate and adapt in the face of economic disruption, inflation, and uncertainty.

Bridging Experience and Expertise

In addition to hosting The Small Business Report, Brother Brown serves as Executive Director of the District of Columbia Small Business Development Center located on the campus of Howard University. In this role, he works directly with entrepreneurs across industries, providing guidance on financing, government contracting, digital transformation, and workforce development.

This hands-on experience informs every aspect of his radio program. “The conversations on the show are not theoretical—they are grounded in real-world experience,” Brother Brown said. “It becomes more than an interview platform. It’s an extension of my commitment to equipping entrepreneurs with knowledge they can immediately apply.”

His ability to bridge policy, strategy, and execution enables him to identify emerging trends early and translate them into meaningful insights for listeners. Whether interviewing national business leaders, policymakers, or successful entrepreneurs, Brother Brown brings depth and clarity that resonates with both aspiring and established business owners.

Inspiring the Next Generation

At its core, The Small Business Report was designed to demystify entrepreneurship and provide access to high-level business knowledge—especially for those who may not otherwise have it. Brother Brown hopes the program has served as both a source of inspiration and a practical resource, reinforcing the belief that successful business ownership is attainable with preparation, discipline, and the right guidance.

“One of the most rewarding moments has been hearing from entrepreneurs who made decisions that changed the trajectory of their businesses based on something they heard on the show,” he shared.

Listeners have credited the program with helping them secure funding, reposition their companies, and take the leap into entrepreneurship. These success stories underscore the show’s real-world impact—extending far beyond radio into tangible outcomes.

Brother Brown also uses the platform to raise awareness about free resources available to entrepreneurs, including Small Business Development Centers located across the United States and its territories, ensuring that access to support remains central to his mission.

Expanding a National Platform

Looking ahead, Brother Brown envisions The Small Business Report evolving into a comprehensive multimedia platform expanding beyond radio into digital broadcasting, live events, executive roundtables, and educational programming. His goal is to create a dynamic ecosystem that not only informs entrepreneurs but actively connects them with capital, corporate partners, and policy influencers.

“My role will continue to be that of an advocate, educator, and connector,” Brother Brown stated. “Many businesses don’t fail because of lack of talent—they fail because of lack of access. My mission is to close that gap.”

Through every platform available, he remains committed to opening doors, creating opportunities, and strengthening the economic future of underserved communities.

A Distinguished Career of Leadership

Brother Brown’s professional journey reflects a remarkable blend of corporate, public sector, and entrepreneurial leadership. He has held executive roles with major organizations including Verizon, Pepsi-Cola, and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, and has served in federal, state, and local government as a warranted contract officer.

His expertise spans human resources, sales, marketing, procurement, and government contracting—providing him with a comprehensive, 360-degree perspective on business operations.

A recognized thought leader, Brother Brown’s insights have been featured in national outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, MSNBC, The Washington Informer, and The Afro-American. He is also the creator of Sammy the Saver, a financial literacy comic book series designed to teach youth the fundamentals of money management.

In addition, Brother Brown has appeared on several programs on the History Channel, further expanding his reach and influence in storytelling and education.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard University and a Master of General Administration from the University of Maryland Global Campus, and is a Certified Contract Compliance Administrator and Sherpa Executive Coach.
