Samuel Bobby Harps, 87, passed away on October 2, 2021. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Samuel and Marie Harps. He attended Booker T Washington High School, Norfolk, where he was a standout football player. From there, he attended North Carolina Central University, Durham, NC, and later, attended Saint Leo University. Samuel served his country in the United States Army, retiring after 21 years, and he retired from the United States Postal Service after 21 years. He was also an ROTC instructor at Norfolk State University. Samuel was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, as well as a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He was a volunteer at various elementary schools and Virginia Eye Consultants. Samuel also worked for Checkered Flag after retirement. He was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins Football Team. Even though he was a mild mannered and loving man, he was strong in many ways, and looked upon as a leader to family and friends. Samuel was a father figure to many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Samuel was predeceased by his parents, his daughter, Verna Harps-Morrow and two brothers, James and Herbert Harps.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 10 years, Judy Williams-Harps; 2 sons, Samuel and Zacharie, 3 daughters, Phyllis (Joaquin), Monica, and Brianna, 2 step-sons, Jamal (Jestine), and James (Cynthia), and 2 step-daughters, Kenya (Carlos), and Jasmine. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren: Shegun, Qiana, Verneisha, Zanetta, Markus, Marius, Unikue, Julius, Chynah, Jamir, Azaria, Desiree, Xander, Zainayah, Zair, Erica, Shanta, Joy, and Jason; and 4 great grandchildren, Shekenya, Shegun Jr., Kamun, and Taylor.
