Shelton MacArthur Wilson was called home to the Lord on December 18, 2024, at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center, in Portsmouth, Virginia. Shelton was a cherished sibling, uncle, cousin, and friend who touched countless lives with his kindness, humor,r, and dedication, leaving a legacy of love and inspiration. Born on August 30, 194 7, in Lawrenceville, Virginia,
Shelton was born to William Henry Wilson and Lassie L. Easter-Wilson. Shelton was born partially blind, but he never let his disability define or limit him. Instead, he used his experiences to inspire and uplift others, demonstrating resilience, courage, and determination in all that he pursued. Through his achievements and compassionate spirit, Shelton became a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of faith and hope in Jesus Christ.
Shelton graduated from I.C. Norcom High School in 1968. He received a four-year basketball scholarship to Virginia State University. He was a 1970 initiate and 50-year member of the Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc. (KA ‘P). He worked at Norfolk Naval Shipyard during his summers. After graduating college, he returned to Portsmouth Public Schools as an educator and coach. On December 1, 1990, he was inducted to the I.C. Norcom Athletic Hall of Fame, in recognition of outstanding achievements in athletics.
Shelton had many talents. He owned multiple small businesses including an equipment rental business and a lawn care business. He utilized his businesses to improve his community and bless neighbors and friends. His love of family and friends will forever live in their hearts.
Shelton was pre-deceased by three (3) brothers: James L. Wilson, Charles Blake, and Robert M. Blake. His cherished memory will be forever remembered by: Four ( 4) sisters, Lassie Anderson, Eva McCleary, Patricia Harrison, and Thelma Wallace; and one ( 1) brother, Albert Gilliard; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends whom he loved dearly.
