Macy Edward Holley, Jr., age seventy-two, died on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, in Columbia, MD. Macy was born on June 24, 1947, in Thomasville, North Carolina to the late Carolyn J. Holmes and Macy Edward Holley, Sr.
Macy graduated from Thomasville High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Winston-Salem State University in 1970. Macy married his college sweetheart, Dorothy in 1970 in Watha, North Carolina. The two lived in Lexington, North Carolina for one year before moving to Baltimore, Maryland.
In 1971, Macy accepted a position as an educator with the Baltimore City Public School System, where he worked for more than two years. He later accepted a position as an administrator with Bowie State College. In 1975, he joined the Department of Housing and Urban Development, where he worked for thirty years, retiring in 2005. After retiring from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Macy became an entrepreneur, establishing D BEST N VENDING, LLC, which he continued to develop until his death.
Macy was a social and active man who was deeply involved in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He was initiated into the Columbia (MD) Alumni Chapter in 1985 and was a very active member of the Alexandria-Fairfax (VA) Alumni Chapter for many years leading up to his death. He was also a valued member of Cornerstone Church in Baltimore, Maryland, where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees.
In addition to his loyalty to family and his fraternity, Macy enjoyed fitness and tailgating. His family and friends will always remember him as the most loving and compassionate person.
Macy leaves to mourn: his wife, Dorothy Holley of forty-nine years; son, Macy Edward Holley III; daughter, Schanel Holley; and grandson, Malik Holley.
Macy was a great family man, a loving father, and loyal friend. In addition to his wife, children, and grandson, Macy leaves behind a brother, John Homes, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
