Louis Dabney Gregory of Manassas, Virginia, departed this life on October 1, 2023. The fourth of twelve siblings, he was born on April 20, 1935, to Hillary Allen and Lucille Elam Gregory of Drakes Branch, Virginia. Five sisters and three brothers preceded him in death: Anne Lucille Gregory, Hilda Gregory, Irene Pridgen, Elaine Williams and Ruby Gee, Hilton Gregory, Hillary Gregory III, and Edward Allen Gregory. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted children, Keith O’Brien Gregory, Wanda Cyntrilla Gregory, Lisa Gregory Williams (Jonathan), and Kenya Marquita Gregory.

Louis accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of St. Michael BapYst Church in Drakes Branch, Virginia. In later years, he also aZended First Mount Zion BapYst Church in Dumfries, Virginia.

Louis graduated from Central High School in Charlotte County, Virginia, in 1954. After graduating high school, he attended Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia, where he was a proud Trojan and pledged the Alpha Phi chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He graduated and obtained his undergraduate degree in Industrial Arts. In 1969 Louis received his Master’s Degree in Education
from the University of Virginia.

Louis married Iliga Carrington Gregory in 1964 and they remained married until 1998 when they divorced. From that union were born four children.

Louis served as a teacher, guidance counselor, and principal in the Sussex County Public Schools in Sussex County, Virginia. He later became the Federal Projects Director, for the Charlotte County Public Schools, in Charlotte County, Virginia. After having a successful career in public education school systems, Louis embarked upon a career with the federal government where he commenced working for the U.S. Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons as an Education Specialist. During his career with the federal government, he also served as a Program Officer for the U.S. Department of Education. Louis ended his federal career as an Education Specialist for the U.S. Department of Defense where he retired from federal service after an almost 40-year long career.
