Lloyd Gilleston Fennell Jr. was the eldest of two children born to Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd and Marguerite Fennell Sr. in Washington DC on September 27, 1966. Throughout his life, he was affectionately known by many names including Mr. Fen, Fen Brown, The Fenner, Little Lloyd, Sam and Boss Man. His distinctively deep voice made an impression wherever he went, often drawing attention when he spoke.

Growing up in vibrant Northwest Washington DC, Lloyd attended Whittier Elementary School, Paul Junior High School, and ultimately graduated from HD Woodson Sr. High School in 1984. He then attended the illustrious Morgan State University, The National Treasure, where he majored in Communications. While at Morgan State, he became a member Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Incorporated, Alpha Iota Chapter. His fraternity became a significant part of his life, fostering lifelong bonds of brotherhood and creating leadership opportunities.

Lloyd had a deep passion for track and field, cultivating his athletic abilities early in junior high. Throughout high school and into college, he continued to hone his skills, pushing himself to new heights with every race. His commitment was evident in the countless hours spent practicing and training. However, his athletic journey was cut short after a serious car accident forced him to stop running. Despite this setback, Lloyd remained committed to his goals and graduated from Morgan State University, beginning a career in the healthcare industry.

His professional career path began at Concentra Preferred Systems in Rockville and continued at several prominent healthcare companies including Innovation Health, Hospice Care of DC, Professional Healthcare Resources, Maxim Healthcare Services and Nexion Health. Throughout Lloyd’s career endeavors, he specialized in Medicare and Medicaid billing, where his diligence and attention to detail were consistently evident throughout his career.

As a brother, Lloyd was always supportive of his family, close friends and fraternity brothers. His baritone voice immediately captured your attention, making it a smooth path to get to know him, and therefore making a friend for life. Lloyd’s loyalty, great sense of humor and love of life made him unforgettable. He loved to laugh and have a good time. Lloyd was known to join in the fun, or bring the fun, either way you knew you were in for a good time.

Lloyd had a deep love for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and shared a particularly close bond with his Alpha Iota Chapter brothers. He enjoyed participating in step shows and traveling to support Kappa events across the Mid-Atlantic region. His leadership skills blossomed within the fraternity, and his commitment to supporting others grew through his association with the chapter. Even after leaving Morgan, he remained committed to uplifting youth, engaging in charitable causes to support his community and maintaining strong bonds with his fraternity brothers.

A proud Washingtonian, Lloyd was passionate about Washington, DC and his passion extended to its sports teams. He made sure to let everyone know of his unwavering love for the Washington Commanders, Wizards, and Nationals. Lloyd was also a diehard Maryland Terrapins fan, and he especially loved tailgating with his fraternity brothers and friends at Commanders’ home games.

Lloyd loved his hometown, fraternity, friends and family; his greatest love was his two sons Nicolas and Matthew. A devoted father, he beamed with pride when he spoke about his sons and was their biggest supporter. He found great joy coaching his sons in AAU basketball. In his leisure time, he played Phase10, shared phone calls with his friends, and indulged in his hobbies of watching his favorite hometown sports teams, looking at cars, storytelling, blogging about basketball, and collecting Sports Illustrated magazines. He also enjoyed watching his favorite shows, such as Power and Meerkat Manor, and was known for his love of good food.

Over the years, Lloyd experienced numerous health challenges, yet his fight was strong – ALWAYS. He approached his health challenges with determination and his strength was inspirational to his family and friends. Lloyd was a source of joy for those around him and stayed connected with his loved ones. He passed away peacefully with the light of the sun shining upon him on October 16, 2024, at Georgetown University Hospital. Lloyd is survived by his two sons Nicolas and Matthew, their mother Nicole, his parents Lloyd and Marguerite Fennell Sr., his sister Pamela L. F. Moore (Ezra), nephews, Elijah and Elias, his grandmother, Adina McGhee and a host of family, friends, and fraternity brothers who will forever remember his kindness, humor and loving spirit.
