Kyle Christopher Montgomery Sr., 57, of Chester, Virginia, peacefully entered into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

Kyle was born on August 31, 1968, in Lancaster, South Carolina, to the late David L. Montgomery and Sylvia F. Montgomery. He was a proud graduate of Lancaster High School, Class of 1986. At just 17 years old, Kyle answered the call to serve his country and joined the United States Army in July 1986, beginning a distinguished 21-year active-duty military career marked by commitment, discipline, leadership, service, and sacrifice.

His first duty station was with the 2nd Battalion, 68th Armored Regiment, in Baumholder, Germany. Throughout his military career, Kyle served in multiple assignments and embraced every opportunity to lead and serve. Among his many assignments, he deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, proudly serving alongside his fellow soldiers and continuing his commitment to the nation he had sworn to defend.

After 21 years of honorable active-duty service, Kyle retired from the United States Army as a First Sergeant on December 31, 2007, from Fort Lee, Virginia. His military service was more than a career; it was a reflection of the discipline, strength, leadership, and unwavering sense of responsibility that defined the man he was.

Retirement from active duty did not end Kyle's commitment to service. He continued his career as a Department of Defense civilian in the Logistics Training Department (LTD), where he played a major role in the training and education of future 92A Automated Logistics Specialists. Kyle took great pride in sharing his knowledge and experience, helping prepare the next generation of soldiers and logistics professionals for success.

Kyle was also committed to lifelong learning and personal growth. He earned an Associate's Degree in General Studies, an Associate's Degree in Arts of Religion, a Bachelor of Science Degree, and a Master's of Science Management Degree. His pursuit of education reflected the same determination that characterized every area of his life. Kyle believed in continually growing, learning, and becoming better—not only for himself, but for the people around him.

His love for Christ and his desire to serve others eventually led him into ministry. Kyle began his pastoral journey on January 1, 2017 as a Campus Pastor for Destination Church at South Park Mall, in Colonial Heights, VA. Through ministry, he was able to combine his faith, leadership, compassion, and passion for helping others. In time, his dedication and leadership led him to become the Executive Pastor/Chief Financial Officer in March 2021. Whether in uniform, in the workplace, or in the church, Kyle had a gift for leading people, encouraging them, and helping them recognize their own potential.

Kyle's commitment to brotherhood and service extended into his fraternity life as well. In March 2019, he became a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The brotherhood became another meaningful chapter in his life, providing Kyle with opportunities to serve, lead, mentor, and build lasting relationships. He was honored to serve as the 17th Polemarch/President of his chapter from 2024 through 2026, continuing the legacy of leadership and service that had defined so much of his life.

But long before the titles, accomplishments, and leadership positions, Kyle was a man who knew the importance of love and family. In 1984, Kyle met the love of his life, LaDonna Montgomery. What began as a young love grew into a lifelong partnership built upon love, friendship, faith, family, and commitment. On June 10, 1989, Kyle and LaDonna were married. Together, they built a beautiful life and family, standing beside one another through more than 37 years of marriage. LaDonna was not only Kyle's beloved wife, but his partner, confidante, and the love of his life.

Kyle was a man whose smile spoke volumes. It reflected his deep love for Christ, his genuine love for people, and the warmth he carried wherever he went. His presence had a way of making others feel welcomed, valued, and loved. To know Kyle was to know a man who cherished his family, treasured his friendships, and sought to live his life with faith, strength, and purpose.

Kyle was also a man who believed in becoming better—not only for himself, but for those around him. He was a true fitness enthusiast who took great pride in maintaining his health and strength. Working out was more than a hobby for Kyle; it was a way of life and an opportunity to encourage others. He genuinely enjoyed helping people pursue their own fitness goals, offering encouragement, knowledge, and motivation along the way. He understood that strength was not simply measured by what a person could lift, but by the discipline, perseverance, and determination it took to keep moving forward.

Beyond the gym, Kyle found joy in the simple experiences that made life meaningful. He loved hiking, spending time outdoors, and learning to play golf. Whether he was challenging himself physically, trying something new, enjoying a round of golf, or simply spending time with family and friends, Kyle had a way of embracing life and creating memories wherever he went.

Kyle was extremely innovative and possessed a natural ability to lead. He was a man who could see possibilities where others might see obstacles, and he was never afraid to think differently or find a better way forward. As a leader, he served as a role model through his actions, his work ethic, and his commitment to those around him. He believed in doing things with purpose and encouraged others to believe in themselves as well.

Yet, perhaps one of the most memorable things about Kyle was the way he could make people laugh. He was, in his own right, a part-time comedian—quick with a joke, a clever comment, or a moment of humor that could brighten even the hardest day. His laughter and personality brought a special energy to the people around him. Beneath that humor was a deeply empathetic heart. Kyle cared about what people were going through, listened when others needed someone to hear them, and had a genuine desire to help.

Kyle was also a man of his word. When he said he would do something, people could count on him. His word carried weight because it was backed by character, integrity, and action. He understood the importance of being dependable and standing by the people he loved. These qualities—his leadership, compassion, humor, strength, creativity, and unwavering word—made Kyle not simply someone people knew, but someone people could look up to.

Throughout his life, Kyle remained devoted to the people he loved most. Above all, he was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His greatest legacy will not only be found in the years he lived, but in the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, the people he served, and the love he gave so freely.

Kyle was preceded in death by his beloved parents, David L. Montgomery and Sylvia F. Montgomery of Lancaster, South Carolina, and his brother, Davey La-Rue "Rudy" Montgomery.

Kyle leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by his devoted wife of 37 years, LaDonna M. Montgomery; his two loving sons, Christopher D. A. Montgomery and Kyle C. Montgomery II; his sister, Cheryl C. Wilson (Thelbert) of Lancaster, South Carolina; his seven amazing grandchildren, Darrean, Ariyana, Aasiyah, Kai'Cee, Kyle III, Kylee, and Jakhi; his mother-in-law, Mary H. McGriff; his sister-in-law, Angela A. Robinson; his spiritual brother, Dr. Cortez Frazier Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, fraternity brothers, fellow soldiers, colleagues, church family, and close friends.

Though our hearts are heavy with his passing, we find comfort in knowing that Kyle has completed his earthly journey and is now resting in the presence of the Lord. His love, his laughter, his smile, his faith, his service, his leadership, and the memories he created with those around him will remain forever in our hearts.

Kyle's life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his love a legacy that will live on through generations. He served his country with honor, served his community with purpose, served the church with faith, and loved his family with his whole heart.
