James C. Humphries, Jr. was born in the District of Columbia to Martha Ann Humphries and the late James C. Humphries, Sr. He was the first of two children. He attended D.C. Public Schools graduating from Dunbar Senior High School in 1987. Jimmy, as he was affectionately known, went on to Strayer University and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems. James, (the Warden), was the tail (#11) of the Fall 1995 Silver Spring (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He was the most serious one which is how he earned his line name and kept the line together when things were getting crazy. He met and married his lifetime friend Kimberly Humphries (divorced), from this union they loved and adored their children Shari, Jordan, Kendall, and Sydney.

As a kid, James enjoyed hanging out with his close cousin Frank and best friend Reggie. He joined and performed in a dance group called the Solar Zappers, they performed at social events around the DC area (Yes, he could dance). James enjoyed sports too. He played flag football and golf, but his true passion was baseball. He would brag and say he had the “golden glove”. He started his son Kendall with the game at an early age. He was obsessed with baseball and went to every practice, games, travel, and even paid for private lessons with ex-baseball professionals. When he and Kendall would watch sports together and someone made a bad play his favorite line was “that was such a cornball move”.

James had an IT career that spanned industries. He had a wealth of knowledge in various technical applications and languages. He was pursuing a Masters’ Degree with the MIT, Sloan School of Management before his passing. James was most recently employed with Care First Blue Cross/Blue Shield where he served as the lead of a technical staff charged with defining and designing code in support of the long-term business strategy for development efforts.

He dedicated his life to Christ and was later baptized at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden. James was devoted to his church and served not only as a member but as a true disciple serving in many roles including his work with the Men’s Ministry. James was a man of great character and respected by all who knew him. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend who was always there for his family. He gave selflessly to all. James had a loving personality and a heart of gold. His willingness to help anyone revealed his kind spirit His dedication to his family will always be remembered.

James C Humphries transitioned from earth to glory on June 23, 2020, at John Hopkins Hospital with his family by his side. Saddened by his passing, but cherishing many precious memories are his mother Martha Humphries/William; Brother Dwayne Humphries; Wife of (20 ) years, Kimberly Humphries; Daughters: Shari Pope/David, Jordan and Sydney Humphries; Son: Kendall Humphries; Grandsons Camren and Cairo Pope; Sister: Xantippe Humphries; God sister: Amina Pringle/Robert; Niece Ianthe Humphries; Nephew: Jalen Humphries and a host of maternal and paternal aunts, uncles and cousins. Gone too soon but he will forever be in our hearts. We will find peace and comfort in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord and we know he now rests peacefully with the heavenly father.
