MACK, MICHAEL HOWARD, 62, of Richmond, Virginia, departed this life on Friday, January 20, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father, Brother Gordon H. Mack (Alpha Sigma ’51).

He was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1960 and moved to Princeton, New Jersey with his family in 1965, where he grew up. He attended Virginia Union University, where he played on the tennis team, and later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science. In the Spring of 1983, he was initiated at the Virginia Union University Chapter, the Alpha Gamma (E) of Kappa Alpha Psi (3-AG-1983 – “The Late Show”). He later attended graduate school at the University of Northern Iowa. He worked in the hospitality industry for many years and was a longtime member of St. Philips Episcopal Church in Richmond.

A Grand Chapter Life Member, Brother Mack served in several leadership roles within the Richmond (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, including:

  • 33rd Polemarch of the Richmond (VA) Alumni Chapter (FY 2020 – 2021)
  • Undergraduate Advisor for the Alpha Gamma Chapter (Fall 2012 – Spring 2020)
  • 1st Vice Polemarch (32nd Administration – FY 2019 & FY 2020)
  • 2nd Vice Polemarch (31st Administration – FY 2017 & FY 2018)
  • Board of Directors (29th Administration – FY 2012 & FY 2015) (30th Administration – FY 2014 & FY 2016) (35th Administration – 2022 – Present)
  • Hospitality Committee Chairman (FY 2014 – 2016)

Brother Mack was awarded the “Polemarch Award” in 2016, which was later followed by him being voted the “Chapter Brother of the Year” in 2017, for his dedicated service during FY 2015 – 2016. In summary, Brother Mack was truly an great spirit / advisor from “the good ole days (80s), a “Brothers Brother” and most importantly a friend.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother Kay Bell Mack of Princeton, New Jersey, his sisters Melissa Mack of Glen Ridge, New Jersey and Margot Mack of New York, New York, a brother, Matthew Mack of Princeton, New Jersey, extended family, as well as many caring friends.
