A Time to be Born…Mr. Louis Nathaniel Westbrook Sr., the ninth child born to the late Horace and Madeline Sledge Westbrook, was born in Yale, Virginia, June 16, 1939. Louis accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church also located in Yale, Virginia. He later relocated to Richmond, Virginia where he and his family joined and were faithful members of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Glen Allen, Virginia.
A Time to Learn…Louis was educated in the public schools of Sussex County, Virginia. Upon graduation from high school in 1958, he attended Virginia State College (currently Virginia State University) where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education in 1966. He was a strong proponent for continuing education and received his Master’s Degree in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. He also became a Licensed Agent with Long and Foster Realtors where he received numerous awards and recognitions for top sales.
A Time to Love…Louis met the love of his life Inell C. Stith of Sussex, Virginia. They met in high school and were high school sweethearts. In 1965 they married in Petersburg, Virginia and relocated to Richmond, Virginia where they birthed and raised two wonderful children. Their love is an example of true love at its FINEST! Their marriage embodies 1 Corinthians 13:4-10, “Love is patient, love is kind…” yes, a marriage of true commitment that stood the test of time.
A Time to Live… Louis was a Special Education teacher for a number of years in the Richmond Public Schools. Later in his tenure, he became Superintendent of the Richmond Juvenile Detention Center. Louis was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He was a dedicated family man and the proud father of two wonderful children who were his pride and joy. He love boating and fishing with his family and friends, he especially enjoyed boating with his brothers. He also was an active member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in which he was a member of the Usher Board and the Finance Committee. He loved entertaining and having a good time eating and laughing with family and friends. He loved watching WWE wrestling, Sanford and Son, and the Word Channel with his grandkids.
A Time to Die…Our Heavenly Father called Louis home to rest on Thursday, January 7, 2016. Louis was preceded in death by eight siblings; George Sr., Jack, Winfred Sr., Arnold Sr., Douglas, Mollie Walton, Edith Dillard, and Alma Taylor and his grandparents the late Paul and Lucille Sledge. Louis leaves to celebrate his life a loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Inell Corinthia Stith. In addition, he leaves to treasure precious memories, two children; Adrienne and Louis Jr. both of Richmond, Virginia; four grandchildren; Dazjah, Donovan, and Joshua of Richmond and Jameer of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by one brother Willie (Essie) Westbrook of Petersburg, Virginia, eight sisters-in-law; Jimmie Hunt, Barbara (William) Blake, Mable Thorne, Rose (John) Harris, Annie(John) Moore, Beverly Gibbs, Irene and Louise Westbrook; one brother-in-law Frederick (Meredith) Stith. He leaves two devoted friends; Robert Mack and Oscar Haywood. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends
