The 1st Polemarch of the College Park-Sandy Spring Alumni Chapter, Brother Hank Boyd, Jr. has over 35 years of business experience in engineering, logistics, and management. His areas of expertise include construction oversight, contracts, and minority compliance. Brother Boyd founded Ombudsman, Inc. in 1974 as a diversified consulting firm in Silver Spring, Maryland. In 1999, Brother Boyd stepped down as CEO of the company and handed the reins over to his oldest son, Hank III. Before founding Ombudsman, Inc., Brother Boyd served with distinction in the United States Army for 21 years. His military career included tours of duty in France, Korea, Okinawa, Japan, and stateside. He is a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, where he served as a member of the Special Forces Branch. After retiring from the military, Brother Boyd worked for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (water and sewer authority). During his tenure, he created and spearheaded the minority compliance program that awarded millions of dollars to minority-owned businesses. Given his background in logistics, he also served as head of the building and grounds division, where he streamlined operations and reduced costs. Brother Boyd holds a BS in Economics from Lincoln University, a BA in Arts from the University of Maryland, University College, and an MBA in Business Management and Personnel from the University of Maryland, University College. He has also earned certification in several specialty areas from military training programs (e.g., sanitary engineering, entomology, and epidemiology. Brother Boyd is a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. initiated at the Alpha Mu Chapter (Lincoln University, Jefferson City, MO) in 1952. He is a Charter Member and served with distinction as the first Polemarch of the College Park-Sandy Spring Alumni Chapter from 2005-2006. As a pillar of the community, Brother Boyd actively volunteered his time to build the new sanctuary for Olive Branch Community Church. This house of worship was erected on historic land that was part of the Underground Railroad. In this role, Brother Boyd oversaw all aspects of building construction and water management. Brother Boyd also served on numerous, community-based and church foundations focused on charitable causes. |
