NORRELL, III, MOSES A., of Henrico departed this life August 1, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Y. Norrell. He was born to the late Moses A. Norrell, Jr. and Marian Evans Norrell on August 20, 1937 in Richmond, Virginia. He was the eldest of three children. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was educated in Richmond Public Schools and graduated from Armstrong High School. He received his Bachelors degree from Virginia State College and his Masters from the University of Akron. While an undergraduate, he was initiated at the Virginia State College Chapter, the Alpha Phi of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., in the Spring of 1956. He excelled at the quarterback position for the football teams at both Armstrong and Virginia State, gaining the life nickname of “Sporty”. As an educator, “Sporty’ served as an offensive coordinator at his Alma Mater Armstrong, and mentored young men and women for decades, until his retirement. He met the love of his life Laura “Lolly” Evans Norrell in high school and the rest was history. Their union was blessed with one loving son, Brother Mark A Norrell (Richmond Alumni ’88), and later a daughter-in-law Patricia and two grandchildren Erick and Jessika. He was also a devoted member of the historical Club 533 in Richmond, where he served as the 17th President (1986-1988). He was proceeded in death by his parents, his brother, Brother Ivan G. Norrell (Alpha Phi ’63), his sister, Goldie A. Williams and nephew Ottoway Williams. |
