John T. Lanier, Sr. entered into eternal rest on January 18, 2021, and leaves behind a legacy of excellence and unconditional love for his family, his fraternity, his friends, and his community. John was born in Danville, Virginia to Leomia and Willie T. Lanier, Sr. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, John was a charter member of Eta Xi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. Over his lifetime, John distinguished himself in the Fraternity through numerous leadership roles, earning many awards and honors. John married Joyce Cooper in 1983, and they were blessed with their son, John T. Lanier, Jr. in 1986. He was a loving and dedicated husband and father who tirelessly extended himself to family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Willie T. Lanier, Jr. John leaves to cherish his legacy and life, his loving wife, Joyce Cooper Lanier and devoted son, John T. Lanier, Jr.; sister, Barbara M. Younger (Joseph); brother, Jerry L. Lanier (Roxanne); brother-in-law, Frederick Cooper (Cheryl); nephew, Freeman Cooper; cousin, Willie Lanier (Barbara); his long-term health care companion, Antoinette Rhoades; life-long friends, Harvey Graves and Alexander Owens III and a host of other family and friends. |
